KNIDOS

Thursday: As we make our way back, our final stop is the ancient city of Knidos. Originally founded as a Spartan colony in the 7th century B.C. at the present town of Datca, its inhabitants later relocated it to its current location at the tip of the Resadiye promontory. Knidos was even nominated as one of the wonders of the world. You can explore a significant portion of this vast ruined city, and the accompanying bay provides a delightful spot for swimming, with fantastic views from the nearby lighthouse. It is one of our favorite anchorage points. Knidos was an ancient Greek city in Caria, forming part of the Dorian Hexapolis. It resided on the Datça peninsula, which now constitutes the southern side of the Sinus Ceramicus, known as the Gulf of Gökova.

DATÇA

Friday: This signifies the culmination of our voyage as we depart in the morning and sail back to Cairos Marina - Datça. Typically, the journey is swift, benefiting from favorable winds. After a brief swimming break in Mersincik Bay, we dock at our designated berth in the marina. You have the option to disembark on Friday evening or choose to extend your stay for an additional night to relish in the charms of Datça. Saturday morning is dedicated to cleaning, necessitating that all occupants vacate the yacht before 9 AM.
A slender slice of mountains and beaches extending into the Aegean Sea provides an oasis of unspoiled tranquility amidst the bustling resorts of southwestern Turkey. The Datça Peninsula, stretching 50 miles in Turkey's Muğla province, emerges as a verdant gem at the convergence of the Aegean and Mediterranean, preserving its purity unlike many other areas in southwestern Turkey. Legend has it that the ancient Greeks believed Datça to have been meticulously crafted by Zeus, such is the beauty of its rocky formations and crystal-clear aquamarine waters. The geographer Strabo purportedly remarked, "God sent his beloved creatures to Datça for them to live longer."
Datça is characterized by craggy, pine-covered hills, endless olive groves, secluded ravines, coves adorned in cornflower blue, sweeping bays, and uninhabited beaches. The air is perfumed with scents of thyme, rosemary, and sage, while sleepy villages exude an air of tranquility. Here, you will encounter goats crossing the roads and elderly men leisurely tinkering with their worry beads in vine-covered cafes. Despite being nestled between the affluent Bodrum to the north and the overdeveloped Marmaris to the south, Datça remains unspoiled due to limited road access and its distance from airports. While tourists do visit and opt to stay in a new collection of upscale hotels, and urban Turks acquire second homes here, most visitors only make brief stopovers during Gulet cruises.

DATÇA

Green Penisula

The spindly Datça Peninsula, stretching 50 miles long in Turkey's Muğla province, is a dagger-like strip of vibrant green where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet.

DATÇA

The geographer Strabo said

"God sent his beloved creatures to Datça for them to live longer." The ancient Greeks held the belief that Datça was personally created by Zeus, given the stunning allure of its rocky outcrops and enchanting aquamarine waters.

DATÇA

Old Datça

In the hills above the town is Old Datça, which had been more or less abandoned by the 1980s but is now experiencing a mini renaissance. Additionally, there is a captivating 235-mile coastline to explore, along with Datça's serene villages and breathtaking landscapes. These elements form the most precious jewel of Datça.

WHY WAIT?

LIFE DOES NOT!

Our Mission: To Teach Sailing on the Sea and
Create Unforgettable Memories
in the Aegean Sea.

Pablo Neruda's Poetry

He who becomes the slave of habit,
who follows the same routes every day,
who never changes pace,
who does not risk and change the color of his clothes,
who does not speak and does not experience,
dies slowly.

He or she who does not turn things topsy-turvy,
who is unhappy at work,
who does not risk certainty for uncertainty,
to thus follow a dream,
those who do not forego sound advice at least once in their lives,
die slowly.

He who does not travel, who does not read,
who does not listen to music,
who does not find grace in himself,
she who does not find grace in herself,
dies slowly.

Let's try and avoid death in small doses,
reminding oneself that being alive requires an effort far greater than the simple fact of breathing.
